Yes, you heard right. I’m not doing Black Friday.
I make no judgement of anyone who is, but it’s not for me. I don’t have an offer on, and I won’t be going shopping.
I’ll be buying most of my Christmas gifts from small businesses. I’d rather pay a few pounds more and feel comfortable with where I’m spending my money.
I’m leaning towards buying gifts that have less environmental impact… locally produced foodie gifts, experiences such as tickets to Birmingham’s unique and wonderful Electric Cinema (you can order wine and olives by text during the film!) and vouchers for the new trampoline park.
Books will come from Hive.
In the spirit of full disclosure, Lego is on the gift list, which perhaps isn’t great for the planet, but at least they treat their staff well.
It hasn’t always been this way. Last year price and convenience were important to me, so I did a lot of my shopping with Amazon.
But 2016 has put things in perspective and I feel the need to “be the change I want to see in the world”.
Why am I telling you this? Well if you’ve already planned a great Black Friday offer then I’m not suggesting you need to ditch it.
But I’d like to invite you to think about your marketing on a deeper level. We don’t HAVE TO do what everyone else is doing. NOT following the crowd makes you stand out more.
What do you think?
